Tehran, June 22 - Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ahmad Masjed Jamei here on Sunday said that building trust is the most pivotal element in dissemination of news.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Mehr News Agency, he reiterated that news agencies will manage to succeed once they succeed in build up such trust.
He said that formation of new media marks national development and pointed that multiplicity of public media reflects diversity in perspectives.
Turning to accuracy, reliability and promptness as the foundation of activities of news agencies, he advised the officials in charge of Mehr News Agency to give priority to expressing the truth in their news coverage.
The minister stressed the significance of the role of Islamic Propagation Organization in the country's cultural system and said that Mehr News Agency will mainly focus its activity on "general and cultural information processing" as well as "serving as a link between traditional and modern communication fields".
Referring to various information processing methods commonly practiced in the traditional Iranian community, he noted that "podium" is one of the elements which has a wide application in sanctuaries such as mosques.
He also pointed to news-criers as the state agents engaged in spreading news in old days and said that they were commissioned to keep the public informed about the state decrees.
The Islamic Guidance Minister noted: "Special news-criers were in charge of keeping the people informed on religious information and they used to declare prayer times, the beginning of the holy fasting month of ramadan and the mourning month of Muharram."
He called on the officials in charge of Mehr News Agency to systematize the traditional communications and attempt towards sustainable pursuance of the Iranian cultural tradition.
