Ahani meets coalition official

Tehran, July 31 - Deputy Foreign Minister for Euro-American affairs Ali Ahani called here Wednesday for immediate release of two Iranian TV reporters captured by US troops in Iraq while making a documentary film on Iraqi people.
In a meeting with British deputy head of coalition provisional authority in Iraq John Sawers, Ahani called for transfer of power to people's representatives in Iraq, establishment of a popular government, immediate withdrawal of foreign troops, and restoration of security and tranquility in the country.
Referring to the hard living conditions in Iraq, he called for transfer of power to people's representatives in that country.
Sawers, for his part, underlined the determination of Iraqi officials to continue talks and cooperation with Tehran and called the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Iraq and the region as very 'constructive'.
In conclusion, he called for mutual negotiations on Iraq's developments as well as regional and international issues.
