Earthquake jolts Mehran

Tehran, Aug 1 - An earthquake registering 3.8 on the open-ende richter-scale rocked the township of Mehran, Ilam province, on Friday.
The quake occurred at 10:08 local time (05:38 GMT), the seismological base of the Tehran University's geophysics institute reported.
There is no report available yet on the possible property damage or loss of life as a result of the tremor.
Iran sits on some of the world's active seismic fault lines and tremors of a mild magnitude are almost a daily occurrence.
since 1991, at least 17,000 Iranians have died as a result of earthquakes.
