Putin to meet Schroeder, Chirac

Berlin, Sept 22 - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder is scheduled to meet Wednesday with French President Jacques Chirac and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the UN General Assembly in New York to coordinate their future Iraq policy, German government circles said Monday.
"This meeting which is part of continuing meetings of the three leaders, will focus on Iraq, Afghanistan, the Middle East, the future of the United Nations and...," government circles pointed out.
"The meeting will follow the meeting between the (German) chancellor and US President George W. Bush, however it is not aimed as a 'counter axis' to US ideas on a new Iraq resolution," the circles added.
Germany, France and Russia have repeatedly called for a greater political role of the UN in Iraq while Washington has advocated merely a minor role for the world body.
