Pak Muslim groups warn government

Islamabad, Sept 22 - Pakistan's alliance of Islamic opposition groups warned the government against any plan to send troops to Iraq, local press reported.
Speaking at a religious congregation here on Sunday, Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal Secretary General Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the MMA would fully resist any government plan to send Pakistani forces to Iraq, a local daily wrote Monday.
According to the nation, MMA leadership said that not only the religious parties' alliance (MMA) but the common people on street would oppose the government plan of dispatching troops to the war-torn country.
The newspaper also said that the participants chanted loud slogans against the United States for its dual policies against the Muslims, particularly against Palestinians and Kashmiris.
Palestinian leader Sheikh Ahmed Yasin and top Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Gillani also spoke to the congregation by telephone.
The government of Pakistan has said that troops could be sent to Iraq, preferably under the banner of United Nations or the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.
The religious groups are opposed to dispatching Pakistan army personnel to Iraq under the United States' command.
