Brussels, Sept 22 - At the Afghanistan donors meeting in Dubai on Sunday, the European Commission announced its intention to make a further 50 million euro available, in particular, to promote security in Afghanistan.
Security is the single biggest challenge facing Afghanistan today, and the current difficulties impact on both physical and political reconstruction, said a commission statement issued in Brussels Monday.
The commission will propose a package of 50 million euro to support the Afghan police.
The 50 euro million package is proposed in addition to the 400 million euro already committed by the commission to Afghanistan's reconstruction in 2003-04.
The donors meeting was held in the margins of the IMF/WB annual meetings in Dubai, and was chaired by the Afghan transitional authority.
