Congress for swift transfer of power

New York, Sept 22 - Members of Iraq's Governing Council will urge the US congress this week to press the US occupying force in their country to swiftly transfer power to the Council, the New York Times reported Monday. The report comes as world leaders convene for the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday to debate when and how to return control of iraq to iraqis following the ousting of president Saddam Hussein in April.
"A delegation is being sent to Washington to seek congressional support for a more rapid transfer of sovereignty, budgetary resources and security responsibilities to the council," the Times said.
