Tehran, Tashkent confirm signed MOUs

Tashkent, Aug 2 - Uzbekistan's administration here on Friday approved the Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) signed between Iran and that country during the Uzbek President Islam A. Karimov's state Tehran visit.
President Karimov visited Iran in June 2003, atop a high ranking political and economic delegation.
The public relations bureau of the Uzbek government announced here on Friday that the approved MOUs include documents on expansion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, plants quarantine, and elimination of preferential customs tariffs.
In addition to approving the said MOUs, the Uzbek government approved a trilateral agreement among Tehran, Tashkent and Kabul for the joint construction of a transit route from the Central Asia to Europe, through Afghanistan and Iran.
Based on an article of the Friday approval of the Iran-Uzbekistan MOUs, a commission at Uzbekistan's ministry of foreign affairs is to be appointed to monitor the proper and complete finalizing of the said MOUs.
According to the official statistics released by the Uzbek government, the volume of Iran's commercial transaction with that country during the year 2002 was 206 million dollars.
Seven Iranian industrial manufacturers have representative offices in Tashkent currently, while the public sectors of the two countries have established 53 joint manufacturing firms, based in Uzbekistan.
